Understanding T-Shirt Weight & GSM

Not all T-shirts feel the same. One of the easiest ways to compare fabric weight is GSM, or grams per square metre.

A lower GSM generally creates a lighter-weight T-shirt, while a higher GSM usually feels heavier and more substantial. But heavier doesn't automatically mean better, the right T-shirt weight depends on how you plan to wear it, the fabric, fit and the look you're trying to achieve.

Lightweight tees can be a great choice for warm weather and active use, while heavier cotton T-shirts can provide more structure and a substantial feel that's popular for casual wear, uniforms and branded merchandise.

Despite being House of Uniforms, you don't need to be ordering uniforms, buying for a business or adding a logo. Many of our T-shirts can simply be ordered as they are, whether you need one tee or you're buying for a group.

There isn't one. T-shirt, t shirt, tee shirt and tee are commonly used to describe the same type of garment. You'll see a variety of different spellings used by different brands and shoppers.

Do you sell 100% cotton T-shirts?

What is a heavyweight T-shirt?

A heavyweight T-shirt is made using a more substantial fabric than a typical lightweight tee. It will generally feel heavier and may provide more structure, although the finished feel also depends on the fabric composition, construction and fit.

What does GSM mean on a T-shirt?

GSM means grams per square metre and is a measurement of fabric weight. A higher number generally indicates a heavier fabric, but GSM alone doesn't determine the quality of a T-shirt.
