All About Linen | House of Uniforms

Did you know? 💡
 |  Ancient Egyptians utilised linen for wrapping the deceased due to its resistance to bacteria 🦠 & fungus, along with its remarkable durability. The strength & endurance of linen were exemplified in 1913 when archaeologists  discovered a collection of linen items, including a top, dating back to 2800 BC.
To spare you doing the math, that top is over 4,700 years old! Showcasing the remarkable longevity of linen.

Derived from the flax 🌾 plant's fibres, Linen exhibits remarkable strength, absorbency & quick-drying properties. This fabric is exceptionally suitable for hot ☀️ & humid climates as it is very breathable & can absorb approximately 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet. Consequently, linen has gained popularity in tropical regions. 🏝️

Linen is known for its easy maintenance as its fibres do not stretch & are highly resistant to abrasion. It possesses low lint & pilling tendencies. Linen can be machine washed, dry cleaned & steamed. Although linen may initially feel slightly rough, it gradually becomes softer with each wash. 🚿

Linen is considered a "luxury" 💎 fabric due to its production costs. However, its exceptional durability & longevity make it cost-effective over its extended lifespan. Apart from clothing, linen is use extensively various home goods, including tablecloths, sheets, towels, upholstery & more.

A potential limitation of linen is its tendency to wrinkle easily, which may result in more frequent ironing for certain garments. However, if you prioritise staying cool 😎 during the summer & don't mind the occasional use of an iron (or embrace a slightly rumpled appearance), linen can be a worthwhile choice to consider.
