What is garment relabelling & why would you do it?

Garment relabelling is a service we offer for select brands. This process involves removing the manufacturer's main label from the inside of the back neck. This process includes unpicking the neck seam, sliding out the original label, inserting your label and then restitching the seam closed.

The "Main Label" refers to the largest label on a piece of clothing, usually containing the brand name, logo, size, fabric composition and country of origin.

In addition to the Main Label, you can also add Pip Labels. These are small labels typically found on hems that usually display a small symbol or logo.

Relabelling is generally only considered if you plan to sell the product under your own brand and want to create a completely customised look. Outside of this use case, there isn't a practical need for relabelling.

Which brands are setup for relabelling?

The garments you are considering should be from a range designed with relabelling in mind. These garments are assembled in a way that anticipates the removal of the original label, making the relabelling process a bit easier.

Currently, the following brands offer relabelling on their products

AS Colour
Ramo

What is the process for arranging relabelling?

There are several steps in the relabelling process and it’s important to note that relabelling will significantly extend your order lead time. The relabelling lead time is separate from our branding lead time.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Design Your Main Label : Have your label artwork ready in EPS format with all fonts converted to outlines. Typically, a main label features a single colour design to keep costs down, such as a white label with black artwork or a black label with white artwork. Simplicity is key since the label is small and elaborate designs are not effective.

  2. Manufacture Your Labels : You can arrange this yourself and post them to us or we can handle this for you. Labels must be supplied cut (not on a continuous roll). If your labels are looped, they must be supplied folded and those with looped ends must have the ends folded as well.

  3. Prepare a Spec Sheet : indicating how and where you’d like your labels attached. Contact us if you need our spec sheet template to follow.

Once we receive your labels and the completed spec sheet, your order will enter the relabelling queue. Generally, the physical relabelling process takes about 10 business days.

FAQ's

What is the minimum order for custom main labels?

Typically a good number to keep in mind is 500. However this can vary depending on the type and size of the label. While 500 might seem like a large quantity the labels are not overly expensive on a per unit price. Once we've completed your order we will return any unused labels to you for you to store for your next order.

How long does it take for my labels to be created?

It depends on the type of label and quantity needed. As a general rule allow 2 - 3 weeks for your labels to be made.

What is the minimum number of garments for relabelling?

It depends on the brand.
With AS Colour there is a minimum of 20 pieces per style.
With Ramo there is a minimum of 100 pieces per style.

How much does relabelling cost?

It depends on a number of factors including, the number of garments, the type of garment and the type of label. As a rough guide allow $2-$3 per garment.

How long does it take for my garments to be relabelled?

Generally around 10 business days but this can be longer at peak time such as Christmas / New Year so it's best to plan early.

What if I've selected the wrong size / colour / style after my labels have been applied?

Unfortunately once your labels have been added we are unable to offer returns or exchanges. Relabelling is completed prior to your custom branding being added.
